Best Password Manager for a Small Law Firm, Five Compared

NordPass and 1Password share the top security score of the five managers compared here, 9/10, with no breach in five years at either. NordPass costs a small firm less for that record, at £1.49 a month on its 12-month plan against £2.32 for 1Password.

Provider Security score Breaches in five years Price a month, 12-month plan Emergency access
NordPass 9/10 0 £1.49 Yes
1Password 9/10 0 £2.32 No
Keeper Security 8/10 0 £3.07 Yes
Zoho Vault 8/10 0 £0.90 No
TeamPassword 8/10 0 £1.82 No

Zoho Vault costs least of the five and Keeper Security most, so a year of Keeper on its 12-month plan comes to £26.04 more than a year of Zoho Vault. Passebo's own comparison data supplies the scores, breach counts, prices and emergency access in the table, most recently checked in October 2026.

Legal platforms now demand stronger sign-ins

PACER, CM/ECF and more than 15 legal platforms now require multi-factor authentication, according to Bitwarden, a password manager maker. Its built-in TOTP authenticator lets a team share a login and its MFA code from one encrypted vault. LastPass, another password manager maker, puts 74% of all breaches down to the human element, from stolen credentials to social engineering and plain mistakes.

Sharing controls for client matters

Secure password sharing comes with 1Password, NordPass, Keeper Security, Zoho Vault and TeamPassword. On their basic plans for one person, NordPass, Keeper Security and Zoho Vault let you choose view-only or edit rights when you share a password. TeamPassword's basic plan gives no such choice. Bitwarden, by contrast, lets administrators assign Read-Only, Read and Write, or Manager rights. LastPass, which sells a plan for legal teams, lets an administrator send required passwords straight into a new hire's vault, encrypted throughout.

TeamPassword sorts a firm's credentials into groups by client matter, practice area or office, showing each attorney only the groups they need. Its One Time Secret sends a password through a link that self-destructs after a single viewing.

Audit trails and compliance reports

TeamPassword says it is SOC 2 compliant, with an audit trail that records who opened which credential and when. It offers a 14-day trial with no credit card required. TeamPassword also says more than 900 teams use it.

Keeper Security names SOC-2 and ISO 27001 certification. Keeper Business gives administrators a view of staff password habits, with policy enforcement, compliance monitoring and audit reports. Its Compliance Reports support audits under Sarbanes Oxley and other rules that call for access-control monitoring. An add-on module called ARAM sends real-time alerts about risky behavior and can feed event data to a third-party SIEM. Keeper Enterprise goes further with SAML 2.0 single sign-on and SCIM and Azure AD provisioning.

Bitwarden says its audit logging, access controls and encryption documents help a firm show reasonable security measures under state bar guidance.

Security records beyond the score

Zero-knowledge designs at all five keep each provider away from your master password. Regular third-party security audits and two-factor sign-in come with them too. NordPass encrypts stored passwords with XChaCha20, where 1Password, Keeper Security, Zoho Vault and TeamPassword use AES-256.

Dark web monitoring and breach alerts come only with 1Password and NordPass. 1Password alone offers a Travel Mode that takes chosen vaults off your devices while you travel.

Passebo's star ratings give NordPass and Keeper Security 4.2 and 4. Its ratings give 1Password 4.2 stars as well, with Zoho Vault and TeamPassword at 3.9 each.

Zoho Vault puts no cap on file attachment storage on its basic paid plan. NordPass allows 3 GB and 1Password 1 GB. TeamPassword gives 0.01 GB. Keeper Security's basic paid plan cannot attach files at all.

Devices, offline use and support

TeamPassword has no biometric login. The other four open with Face ID, Touch ID or a fingerprint. TeamPassword also needs a connection to reach the vault, where NordPass, Keeper Security and Zoho Vault keep working offline. TeamPassword doesn't fill in credit cards or personal details either.

Browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Brave come with NordPass, Keeper Security, Zoho Vault and TeamPassword. Keeper Security and Zoho Vault add phone support to the email, live chat and knowledge base that NordPass and TeamPassword also offer.

NordPass, Keeper Security and Zoho Vault each have a free tier with basic features. TeamPassword has none.

NordPass, Keeper Security, Zoho Vault and TeamPassword set no device limit on a subscription. No basic paid plan here caps the number of stored passwords. Encrypted notes and documents sit beside the passwords in every one of them. A built-in generator makes strong passwords for each new account.

NordPass for most firms, Keeper Security for audits

Pick NordPass if you want a top security score, a clean breach record, emergency access, sharing permissions and breach alerts in one plan, for £17.88 a year. A lawyer who travels gives up Travel Mode with it, a feature 1Password has.

A firm that answers to auditors does better with Keeper Security, whose business plans add compliance reports. At £36.84 a year it costs the most of the five. Its basic paid plan attaches no files.

Choose Zoho Vault for the lowest price and unlimited file storage, accepting no emergency access, dark web monitoring or breach alerts.
